Nearly 2,000 Athletes Compete as Nearly 5,000 Participants and Spectators Gather in Silicon Valley for an International Wushu Celebration
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — The 2026 World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) were successfully held September 5–6, 2026, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California.
Nearly 2,000 athletes from across the United States and multiple countries and regions gathered in Silicon Valley to compete. Together with coaches, judges, parents, distinguished guests, staff, volunteers, and spectators, total on-site attendance approached 5,000.
Participants representing different countries, regions, and martial arts traditions came together through Wushu to compete, exchange skills, build friendships, and celebrate a major international martial arts event.
The championships were organized by the World Taiji Science Federation (WTSF), officially sponsored by KungFuDirect.com, with Shaolin Warrior Academy as Platinum Sponsor and Bay View Golf Club as Gold Sponsor, and with the authorization and support of the USA Wushu-Kungfu Federation (USAWKF).
Competition categories included Contemporary Wushu, Traditional Wushu, Taijiquan, Health Qigong, and Group Events, providing an international platform for athletes of different ages, technical systems, and cultural backgrounds to compete and connect.
Distinguished Guests Gather for the Grand Opening Ceremony
On the morning of September 5, the WWOC Opening Ceremony was held in Hall A of the Santa Clara Convention Center.The Judges’ Procession, WWOC All-Around Champions Team, and participating teams entered the arena in succession, creating a ceremonial and energetic atmosphere.
Distinguished guests from the international Wushu community included Shudong Li, President of the World Taiji Science Federation and President of WWOC; Dajuan Gu, member of the International Wushu Federation Judges Committee, WWOC Chief Referee, and Vice President of the Canadian Wushu Association; Timothy Wakefield, Vice President of the Canadian Wushu Association; Mohammad Reza Nejad, member of the International Wushu Federation Technical Committee and one of the founders of the Iranian Wushu Federation; and Adrian Teyechea Garza, President of the Mexican Wushu Federation.
Other distinguished guests attending and supporting the event included Wenhui Wang, Cultural Counsellor of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco; Xueming Su, Cultural Consul; Professor Myron S. Scholes, 1997 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences and Stanford University professor; Dr. Peter M. Two Days of Exciting Competition Bring Traditional and Contemporary Wushu Together
Nine competition areas operated simultaneously throughout the championships
Over two days of competition, athletes ranging from young children to adults and senior martial arts practitioners took to the floor.
Events included Contemporary Wushu, traditional hand forms and weapons, Taijiquan, Health Qigong, and group competition.
Athletes representing different countries, regions, and martial arts traditions competed and exchanged skills on the same international stage. Their performances demonstrated not only outstanding athletic ability, but also the rich diversity, cultural depth, and continuing vitality of Chinese martial arts.
The 2026 WWOC also further strengthened its competition management and judging system. Electronic scoring, specialized judges’ training, random draws, and standardized competition procedures were implemented to promote greater fairness, transparency, consistency, and professionalism in international Wushu competition.

Following preliminary qualification, 28 outstanding youth athletes advanced to the final selection.Final rankings were determined from scores submitted by 16 judges, strictly following the scoring, calculation, ranking, and tie-breaking procedures established in the Competition Regulations.

A New WWOC All-Around Champions Team Is Born
2027 WWOC All-Around Grand Championship Finalists Announced
Based on the All-Around results in each age division at the 2026 World Wushu Open Championships and the established selection rules, the new WWOC All-Around Champions Team has officially been formed.
At the same time, the athletes qualifying for the 2027 WWOC All-Around Grand Championship Final have also been determined.
The qualifiers represent six major divisions:

Athletes were selected according to their age divisions and All-Around results. In the event of tied scores, eligible athletes may advance according to the Competition Regulations and available qualification positions within the relevant event and age division.

From the 2026 All-Around Grand Championship Final to the formation of the new WWOC All-Around Champions Team and the selection of qualifiers for the 2027 Final, WWOC is building a year-to-year athlete development system designed around continuous advancement, long-term recognition, and sustained support for All-Around athletes.
From Competition to Science, Health, and Education
The 2026 WWOC was not only an international Wushu competition. It also expanded the connection between martial arts and science, health, education, and international academic exchange.
Prior to the championships, the Organizing Committee hosted the Silicon Valley Forum — Taiji & Wushu Research Roundtable, bringing together experts and scholars from Harvard University and other institutions with representatives from the martial arts, education, and research communities.

WWOC seeks to build more than an international Wushu competition platform. Its broader vision is to create an international bridge connecting martial arts, culture, education, health, and scientific research.

Connecting the World Through Wushu and Culture
Although the two days of on-site competition have concluded, the exchange and cooperation initiated by the 2026 World Wushu Open Championships continue.
Athletes, coaches, judges, scholars, and distinguished guests from different countries, cultural backgrounds, and martial arts traditions gathered in Silicon Valley because of their shared passion for Wushu.
Through competition, they learned from one another. Through exchange, they strengthened friendships. Through both tradition and innovation, they explored together the future development of Wushu.
