About WWOC

World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC)

The World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) represent the next evolution of the prestigious Golden State International Wushu Championships, first established in 2009 in California, USA.

Over the past seventeen successful editions, the Golden State Championships have built a strong reputation as one of North America’s most respected martial arts events—celebrating athletic excellence, cultural exchange, and the unity of the global wushu community.

The 2026 WWOC marks the first edition of this new international championship, expanding the legacy into a global-scale open event that welcomes participants from all nations and federations.

The WWOC features modern and traditional wushu, taiji, Health Qigong and youth divisions, bringing together athletes, coaches, and enthusiasts from around the world to promote both competition and friendship through martial arts.

The World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) are hosted and sanctioned by the World Taiji Science Federation (WTSF) — a U.S.-based non-profit organization composed of American and European institutions, Chinese universities, scientific research centers, and global health and wellness associations, as well as individual medical experts, researchers, and professors.

The Federation’s predecessor was the National Tai Chi Wellness Foundation, established in 2008. The WTSF is dedicated to advancing the mission of “Taiji Science” through international research collaboration, scientific data analysis, and educational exchange — promoting medical Taiji, Qigong, and other wellness practices.

As the host of the prestigious Golden State International Wushu Championships, which evolved into the World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) in 2026, the WTSF continues to expand its vision by integrating science, culture, and sport to promote Taiji and Wushu worldwide through research, forums, and global festivals.

The World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) are organized by the WWOC Organizing Committee, a broad and representative body formed under the leadership of the World Taiji Science Federation (WTSF).

The Organizing Committee brings together international wushu federations, academies, schools, and associations, along with lineage holders, masters, and experts from diverse martial traditions around the world. This united structure reflects the WWOC’s core vision — to create a truly global platform for showcasing the richness, artistry, and scientific spirit of wushu.

The Presidium of the WWOC includes world-renowned grandmasters, professors, lineage inheritors of major wushu styles, cultural heritage representatives, and international organizational leaders, who collectively guide the championship’s development and uphold its integrity.

The Organizing Committee operates under the leadership of Chairman Master Shudong Li, together with Vice Chairpersons representing various martial arts systems and international institutions, and an Executive Committee composed of senior organizers and technical experts responsible for the event’s planning, coordination, and professional management.

This collaborative international structure ensures that the WWOC remains inclusive, authoritative, and representative of the world wushu community — uniting diverse traditions under one global stage.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the World Wushu Open Championships (WWOC) is composed of experienced professionals, organizers, and volunteers from the World Taiji Science Federation (WTSF) and its partner institutions across Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The LOC works under the guidance of the WWOC Organizing Committee to implement every aspect of the championship — including event operations, venue management, hospitality, logistics, safety, media, and international coordination.

Members of the LOC come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including sports management, martial arts education, cultural exchange, event production, and academic collaboration. Together, they ensure the WWOC upholds the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and hospitality for all participants.

Supported by local governments, community organizations, and partner universities, the LOC serves as the bridge between the global wushu community and the host city, ensuring that the WWOC 2026 in Santa Clara, California, USA becomes an exceptional and memorable world-class event.

Based on competition results, the Organizing Committee will publish the Annual Overall Champion Ranking on the official WWOC and WTSF websites and form the WWOC World Wushu Champion Team.

Athletes selected into the World Wushu Champion Team will receive:

  1. An exclusive WWOC World Wushu Champion Team uniform.

  2. The opportunity to be listed in the WWOC Grand Championships Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for athletes who have won the All-Around Grand Champion title and top scholarship three times or more.

  3. Once inducted into the Hall of Fame, athletes will no longer participate in future All-Around Grand Champion or scholarship evaluations, allowing opportunities for emerging young athletes.

1) Event Selection
Athletes who qualify for the All-Around Championship Final may freely select one routine in the registration system that best represents their competitive strength.
The chosen routine must belong to the same category as their preliminary qualification event — Traditional Kungfu, Modern Wushu, or Taiji & Qigong.
Each athlete may enter one event only and will have one competition opportunity in the final.

2) Order of Appearance
The order of appearance will be determined by an electronic lot drawing conducted by the Organizing Committee.

3) Grouping Rules
Finalists will be grouped according to Wushu Category and Gender only.
No age divisions will apply in the All-Around Championship Final.

4) Judges & Scoring Method

  • The Organizing Committee will appoint 15 certified judges, using a 10-point scoring system.

  • There will be no difficulty score requirement and no compulsory movements in this round.

  • Score Calculation:
     • The highest six and lowest six scores will be removed.
     • The average of the middle three scores will be taken as the final score.
     • Rankings and scholarship awards will be determined based on these final scores.

  • In the event of a tie:
     • The athlete with the higher 2025 preliminary score will rank higher.
     • If still tied, the athlete with the higher single-event score in the all-around points will take precedence.

  1. 2026 Finals & Scholarship Selection
The 28 athletes who pass the 2025 preliminaries will compete in the 2026 finals. Scholarships totaling USD 15,000 plus any additional funds raised will be distributed based on final results and ranking (the actual amount will be announced before the event).
  2. 2026 Preliminaries & 2027 Finals + Scholarship Selection
(Structure: preliminaries in 2026; finals and scholarship selection in 2027.)
  3. Expanded 2026 Scholarship Preliminaries
The 2026 preliminary quota increases to 60 athletes, and the initial scholarship pool doubles to USD 30,000.

All award recipients may collect their full scholarship on site. Scholarship funds are at the athletes’ discretion, but should be used for Wushu-related purposes such as tuition at training schools, uniforms, and equipment.

Each team must designate one placard guide and one flag bearer to participate in the Opening Ceremony.

The order of procession for each team shall be as follows:

at the front is the placard guide, followed by the flag bearer, team leader, coaches, athletes, and accompanying members.

1. Entry Sequence

The judges’ team will enter the venue first, followed by all participating teams.

After entering, the judges’ team will stand at the center of the venue, while the teams will line up on both sides to maintain a balanced formation.

Teams will enter in alphabetical order (A to Z) according to the first letter of their team name.

The Organizing Committee will indicate the entry order on venue placards, marked with either letters (A–Z) or team numbers in ascending order, to guide the parade formation.

2. Exit Sequence

At the end of the ceremony, the judges’ team will exit first.

All teams will follow the judges and exit in the same order as they entered.

It is very important to provide the Organizing Committee with the following information: Team Leader and Coaches – full names and brief professional biographies.

  1. Team Information – official team name, country, state/province, and city, along with a short introduction of your organization or school.
  2. Team Highlights for This Championship – key athlete introductions, notable achievements, number of participants, competition categories, and athletes with strong medal potential.

Receiving the Award

Athletes may collect their medals at the awards desk 30 minutes after the completion of their respective age group and event.

Since the competition allows athletes to reschedule and make up events in cases where event times overlap or conflict, the publication of results for certain events may be slightly delayed.

The All-Around results will be calculated and announced 30 minutes after all athletes registered for the All-Around event within the same age group have completed their respective competitions.

This ensures that the final All-Around rankings are based on the complete set of performances for that age group.

The Opening Ceremony, Grand Championship & Scholarship Awards, and performances by international masters and teams will begin at 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 5.

  1. All competition certificates are issued in electronic format. Athletes can log in to their personal accounts to download their e-certificates.
